O então ministro teve uma proposta da Sonae depois de suspender o concurso do SIRESP. Era mais barata que a da Motorola e a tecnologia diferente. Mesmo assim, Costa não reabriu o processo.

Estou a preparar a retirada destes serviços passando a usar apenas serviços open source e distribuídos que respeitem a segurança e especialmente a privacidade e ideias e direitos dos seus utilizadores.

In-Q-Tel was formed by the CIA in 1999 as a private, not-for-profit venture capital firm with the specific task of delivering technology to America’s intelligence community. Publicly, In-Q-Tel markets itself as an innovative way to leverage the power of the private sector by identifying key emerging technologies and providing companies with the funding to bring those technologies to market. In reality, however, what In-Q-Tel represents is a dangerous blurring of the lines between the public and private sectors in a way that makes it difficult to tell where the American intelligence community ends and the IT sector begins.
In-Q-Tel has generated a number of stories since its inception based on what can only be described as the “creepiness” factor of its investments in overtly Orwellian technologies.

Ever since Thursday’s blockbuster reports from the Washington Post and the Guardian revealing the existence of the National Security Agency’s PRISM — the government program that allegedly works with major Internet companies to collect (some) U.S. citizen data — tech companies have been fighting to distance themselves from the potentially privacy-violating government programs. The Post and the Guardian allege tech companies that participate in the PRISM program — Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, AOL, Skype, YouTube, and Apple —offered the government “direct access” to their servers full of user information. “From inside a company’s data stream the NSA is capable of pulling out anything it likes,” the Post’s Barton Gellman and Laura Poitras reported. Facebook and Google were two of the most aggressive deniers. But similarities in their statements raised eyebrows. Both Google CEO Larry Page and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg denied giving the government “direct access,” per se, to their servers. That Page and Zuckerberg’s statements were, when boiled down, almost identical to the point they seemed rehearsed with government lawyers guiding the pen didn’t help matters.

What’s more, the billionaire owner of PayPal Corporation has entered into a $250 Million business partnership with two journalists-Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras, a journalist duo who possess the entire cache of evidence provided by Edward Snowden. Despite earlier pledges by the journalists in question, only one percent (1%) of Snowden’s documents has been released.

Climate models haven’t been able to reproduce the phenomenon, which is keeping Karakoram mountain range glaciers from melting like most of the world’s other glaciers, the study found.
“While most glaciers are retreating as a result of global warming, the glaciers of the Karakoram range in South Asia are stable or even growing,” Hayley Fowler, the study’s co-author and professor at Newcastle University, said in a statement.
Karakoram is one of the most heavily-glaciated areas of the world outside the poles, and boasts the world’s second- and third-largest non-polar glaciers. It’s also home to the world’s second-largest peak, K2 — Vertical Limit, anyone?
